OUR MISSION

Our mission here at Coronado Jiu-Jitsu is to provide quality education, awareness, and self-defense training. To stay safe and live a in a way that promotes discipline in one's self, respect toward others, a sense of community and a high state of physical, emotional and spiritual well being.

WHY US

Our instructional model has integrated the Mastery of Jiu-Jitsu traditional techniques, mindsets, and strategies for competition, health & fitness as well as real world self-defense in the street.

.

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) defeated every other martial art when UFC began, which is why MMA fighters are required to learn BJJ or be defeated by it. Building on centuries of martial arts tradition, BJJ has evolved the techniques of self defense and hand-to-hand fighting to an exact science. Training at Coronado Jiu-jitsu will put you on the path to a black belt in the world’s most proven martial art.

You’ll Learn from a Championship-Winning BJJ Black Belt

Coronado Jiu-Jitsu's head instructor Johnny Faria, is a Black Belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu with over 20 years of experience in martial arts. In addition to winning at multiple Pan American and Brazilian Championships, Johnny has taught many of the world’s greatest BJJ competitors, and he brings his extensive knowledge and passion to teaching every Coronado Jiu-Jitsu student, from white to black belt.

You’ll Be Confident and Able to Defend Yourself in Any Situation

When you train Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, you learn firsthand what is effective and gain confidence in yourself as well as your ability to take on any challenge. Other martial arts will give you a false sense of security by distracting you with board breaking and flashy moves. All we care about in BJJ is, “Does it work?” Regular realistic sparring and a healthy tournament scene makes BJJ one of the most realistic forms of self defense ever.

You’ll Get in the Best Shape of Your Life

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is a workout unlike any other and it needs to be experienced to be believed. After just a few weeks of training, you are going to find yourself losing weight and gaining lean muscle as you increase your stamina, endurance, flexibility and strength. BJJ is a whole body workout that beats anything you can do running on boring treadmills and lifting dead weights.

Make New Friends and Experience the BJJ Lifestyle

Once you get into training BJJ, you discover how it changes your outlook on life, teaching you to approach problems in new ways and find creative solutions. Coronado Jiu-Jitsu is full of people who are all interested in improving themselves and those around them.

Henry Iribe

A 3rd degree purple belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and has been training for close to 5 years. At the age of 19, and 130lbs, jiu jitsu caught his interest after seeing it effectively applied by smaller, less physical competitors in mixed martial arts. He began his training his training in Des Moines Iowa at a Caique affiliate during a vacation to the Midwest.

Upon moving back to San Diego, he resumed his normal life working long hours. It was then he realized that jiu jitsu was his real passion, so he quit his job and dedicated his time to learning the art.

Competing at least once a month and attending class 2-3 times a day, he really began to see, not only his progress sparring with his teammates, but that he was beginning to understand the principles behind everything taught. The addiction had set in and now he was determined to pursue a life in jiu jitsu.

He has been training kids and teens for 3 years at a number of high profile academies. He has also won numerous grappling competitions, including:

The 2010 American National Jiu Jitsu Championship at the purple belt level.

More importantly, however, he has the enthusiasm – and patience needed – to teach children’s jiu jitsu.

Headed up by black belt Johnny Faria and Johnny likes to make you WORK!  But he makes training fun so it never seems like work.

Johnny teaches slick moves that you'll see him using to win in big tournaments like Pan Americans and he's probably one of the coolest dudes you'll ever meet. Too many guys I know have man-crushes on him.   :-/  No joke.

Anyways, don't take my word for it, check it out for yourself. Johnny's skills speak for themselves :)

I started training with Johnny about two months ago.  His energy and love for Jui Jitsu is unparralled.  He brings a lot of structure to his classes while making it a very fun learning environment at the same time.
As a newcomer to the sport I wasn’t sure what to expect but Mr. Faria has made my experience a great one.  He should have a 10 Star rating in my eyes!!

I have been training with Professor Faria for a couple of months now.  No one should underestimate the power of Gracie Jiu-Jitsu.  Recently I had a doctor’s appointment and had some blood work done (Yep, I am one of the 'older' students at the school).  A few days later my doctor calls me to say that my cholesterol levels are at a 5 year low! He couldn't believe it. He attributes the amazing drop to my training in Gracie Jiu-Jitsu.  I can honestly say that Johnny Faria has saved my life. Professor Faria is the REAL DEAL!

Great instructor.  Great students.  Great school.  Who could ask for anything more?  I recommend everyone to take that time to check out his school, get to know him and most importantly sign up!  Your life may literally depend on it.  Now I just need to work on not getting gassed.   Oss!

The head instructor is Johnny Faria who is the real deal - not only is he a black belt but also he is a former Pan American champion.  I went to my first class yesterday and got a chance to train with Royler Gracie himself.  I have only been training for a few months, but I highly recommend to people who really want to learn the art of Brazilian jiu-jitsu.  BOA!
